Yes, coffee will ALWAYS be my go to morning caffeine burst, however throughout the day I find myself fighting fatigue. I wish I was constantly energized on my own, but when my afternoon Chemistry class comes along I’m constantly having to snap myself out of an in class afternoon nap! Creating ways to energize myself naturally has really helped me stay focused throughout the day and I hope this list will help you too!
Natural Ways to Energize
My favorite energizing blends include; grapefruit, peppermint, and lemon! Check out my post on essential oil basics to learn more! Essential oils are also really good for school or work because you can take a roller ball dispenser in your backpack or purse. I was recently testing a product for free by Nature’s Origin called the Invigoration Essential Oil Blend which I applied to my wrists, behind my ears, and chest. Aromatherapy helps change my mood, and is especially helpful to fight that mid-day fatigue!
I love making refreshing iced matcha lattes in the summer time! Mix up 1 tablespoon of your favorite matcha (my favorite David’s Tea Matcha) with about 8 oz of coconut milk in a blender. Blend until creamy foam appears and pour over ice! Drinking matcha helps fight fatigue without the annoying jitters of that second cup of coffee!
Getting your body moving helps the blood circulate and awakens your senses! I wasn’t a believer at first, but try a couple of poses and check out how they make your body feel. On mornings where I feel especially groggy, I used to do yoga in my bed before my feet even touched the ground. When I need an afternoon pick-me-up I do the same exact morning yoga poses and end up feeling more energized! My favorite energizing yoga poses can be found here, and include child’s pose, cat/cow pose, seated spinal twist, and many others.

Reflect on last summer
- Think about how much you’ve accomplished since the last summer. How much has changed for the better, or worse?
Surround yourself with positive people
- The influence of others around you will dictate how your summer will turn out. Positive influences are needed to recharge this summer.
Create a list of activities you want to accomplish this summer
- Rather than a to-do list, create a list of events you’re looking forward too. If you happen to not have anything on that list, make some plans and create fun events! You can mold your summer into whatever you want it to be!
Maintain positive habits that will stay with you for the next year
- Start positive habits now, in order to keep them for the next year! I’m trying to start drinking more water daily, and do yoga twice a week!
I’m really excited to relax this summer and prepare for the next year. Taking on a challenging course load for my senior year of college means I need to keep calm this summer and prepare for what’s ahead! Hygge : (pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah) is a Danish word used when acknowledging a feeling or moment, whether alone or with friends, at home or out, ordinary or extraordinary as cosy, charming or special (Hygge House).
With school, work, and other commitments life gets crazy sometimes and finding time to destress becomes difficult.
I stumbled upon the book The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living and then began to research what hygge is, how to pronounce it, and what it can bring to my life. Here are some simple ways to incorporate hygge into your daily life and create a space for happiness and self love!
1. Surround yourself with things you love
Make sure the space you come home to everyday is filled with things that make you happy and relaxed. For example, I love coming home and turning my essential oil diffuser on or lighting a good smelling candle. When you look around your home, apartment, or room look at each item and think about how it makes you feel and if it brings happiness to you.
2. Make everyday special
Have dessert, wear your favorite outfit, or use your special occasion perfume. Instead of not looking forward to the next ordinarily boring day, create a moment in your day where you feel special.
3. Leave your phone on silent for an hour
Social media is fun, but sometimes a break is much needed! Read a new book or maybe cook a really good meal without using your phone. Detaching from social media can ground you and provide a moment of peace in your busy day.
4. Spend time with loved ones
Make a fun dinner for your family or friends or host a cozy movie night! Only invite people that don’t cause you stress and that you always look forward to see. The people you surround yourself with should uplift and motivate you rather than cause you any stress or negativity.
5. Drink tea and create a cozy space
Brew your favorite warm beverage like a tea or mulled wine! Turn off the lights and light candles or use a dim lamp. Creating a cozy space makes all the difference and is worth the effort.
